Google’s first-ever actual retail store opened in New York City’s Chelsea. Customers can expect to find a wide range of Google products at the “Googlecom Store,” including electronics such as Google Pixel phones and Nest thermostats, as well as services like repairs and workshops.
However, on a call with the press yesterday, Google refused to disclose when, where or even if there would be more stores in the future. It’s possible, but there’s no way to know for sure. As a strategy to compete with Apple Stores, this retail location provides a modest entry point for Google into the actual retail market. The pandemic forced Microsoft to close all its retail locations in July of last year.
A sneak peek
The Googlecom Store‘s look and feel resemble less dull, and more welcoming than the Apple Store. A lot of light is reflected in the room, but there are also a lot of wood tones. Local artists collaborated with Google on the cork and wood furniture designs. A platinum award from Leeds for its environmental design is also something it is proud of. As an example, many of the furnishings and floors are constructed of recycled materials.
More about the services
Customers of the Googlecom Store will have access to a comprehensive variety of Google-made products ranging from Pixel phones to Nest devices to Fitbit gadgets to Pixelbooks. For those who want, customers can shop via GoogleStore.com and pick up their purchases in a local store. Many different ways of seeing how items operate together will be available for customers to see and experience when the doors open to the public.
Additional third-party accessories like phone covers and other peripherals designed to operate with products will also be available. Merchandise such as T-shirts, hats, dog toys, and basketballs will also be available for purchase.
You’ll have to go to one of the store’s colleagues, who Google says will all have “a fully functional gadget that they can handle transactions.” Since Google has indicated it has “tightly integrated” the online and physical shopping experiences, if you’re already a Google user, you’ll have a simpler time at checkout as well.
To help users in getting the most out of their Pixel, Google will have technicians on hand to help with debugging issues, mending cracked Pixel screens, and doing installations. Whether you’ve been using Pixel for a long time, are intrigued about Nest displays, or are interested in attending one of how-to seminars, Google’s experts will be ready to provide you with assistance tailored to your requirements.
A series of diorama boxes showcasing various Google products line the store’s exterior. One space is dedicated to gaming, another to showcasing Google’s living room items, and so on. Google has also constructed a circular glass booth, which it plans to fill with exhibits showcasing its technologies, starting with Google Translate. All of Google’s hardware will be supported, including on-site repairs of Pixel phones. It will also provide software support, but only for its consumer goods, not those companies use.
